So habituated to human visitors are mountain goats at Glacier National Park that they can seem as docile and innocent as sheep. To better understand exactly how habituated mountain goats have become to human invasions, the park and the University of Montana are studying how the goats are affected by people, trails, and roads in the Logan Pass area.

While you'll be able to visit the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park beyond mid-October, weather permitting, many of the visitor services and facilities will begin closing for the winter on October 15.

Rocky Mountain National Park isn't the only unit of the National Park System that's been closed by floodwaters. Down in New Mexico, Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument remained closed Monday as a result of heavy precipitation the past few days.

Roads severed. Walls of rock and mud blocking access. Trails washed out. That is some of the aftermath at Rocky Mountain National Park, where streams and rivers normally feeble at this time of year swelled to spring runoff levels and more after days of torrential rains.
