National Park Service Awards $5 Million To Help Preserve America’s Equal Rights History

The National Park Service has distributed $5 million to eight projects in six states as part of the Historic Preservation Fund‘s History of Equal Rights grant program, which focuses on the preservation of sites directly associated with the struggle for all Americans to gain equal rights.

Celebrating Saguaro National Park's Urban Night Sky Place Certification

As the sun set over the Sonoran Desert, the animals came out to play. The deer grazing among the saguaro were probably mule but could have been white-tailed — it was tough to say at dusk with only mini red-light flashlights in hand instead of binoculars. The bird that perched on a tree branch for a few seconds before flying away had the distinctive silhouette of an owl. There was no mistaking the yips and howls of coyotes.

Photography In The National Parks: Abstracts In Nature

Even if you don’t like it, how many of you have photographed something abstract because it caught your eye while visiting a unit of the National Park System? Contributing photographer Rebecca Latson discusses ways to photograph (or even create after the fact) abstracts framed within your national park compositions.

Vanishing Treasures In The National Park System

From the Rocky Mountains to the West Coast and on up to Alaska, there are thousands of historic structures and archaeological sites within the National Park System. They range in from homesteader cabins to prehistoric cave dwellings. Taking care of these buildings in archaeological sites is a valuable job for the National Park Service as they speak to the country's history and its prehistory.
