Climate change and mountain pine beetles are just two elements that are leading to heightened fire danger, and bigger wildfires, in the national parks. At Rocky Mountain National Park, officials are revising their fire management plan in light of those, and other, challenges they face in the park's forests.

A 25-year-old New Jersey man's body has been recovered from a deep pool at the base of a waterfall at Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, which has seen unusually high stream levels in the wake of Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee.

Ian Shive, who has traveled the National Park System to capture its unique and spectacular landscapes in his cameras' viewfinders, has been honored with the Ansel Adams Award for Conservation Photography.

Flash-flooding Tuesday morning caused extensive damage in parts of Joshua Tree National Park, where parts of roads and the Cottonwood Campground were washed away. No visitors or park employees were injured and no vehicles were damaged, officials said.
