Two new shark species have been identified through fossilized remains discovered at Mammoth Cave National Park, with the news coming just a handful of months after the park announced another new shark species had been described from fossils there.

For all those who were lost For all those who were stolen For all those who were left behind For all those who were not forgotten In a sacred sliver of outdoor space near City Hall in Lower Manhattan, those four sentences are etched onto a 24-foot-tall green granite monument alongside a heart-shaped Sankofa, a Ghanian symbol that means “learn from the past to prepare for the future.”

Summer months usually bring about the most stargazing events in the National Park System, but winter is pretty good, too, in part because of the clearer atmospheric conditions. Upcoming events take place at Voyageurs National Park in Minnesota, and Death Valley National Park in California and Nevada.

Baseline climate data is being collected at four National Park System units in the Southwest to help the National Park Service understand how best to respond to predicted climate futures and their impacts.
