A decision by the National Park Service to ban bear baiting by sport hunters in national preserves in Alaska but not address how moose, caribou, black bears, and wolves are hunting drew mixed response from wildlife and national park advocates.

A 69-year-old Texas man hiking to Phantom Ranch on the floor of Grand Canyon National Park lost consciousness along the way and died, according to a park release.

The flag of the Grand Portage Band of Lake Superior Chippewa has been raised above Rock Harbor at Isle Royale National Park and will serve as a permanent fixture on the northeastern end of Isle Royale. The Band’s flag has flown in Washington Harbor since 2021, where it was first raised within the national park after a formal request from the Band.
