Driving Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park is not for those who suffer vertigo. No guardrails will stop your vehicle if you edge off the pavement, and the flanks of the mountains drop away quickly, and steeply.

A search was under way Wednesday for a Virginia man who failed to return from a weekend trip to Shenandoah National Park.

When Cape Hatteras National Seashore officials implemented an off-road management plan for the 70-mile-long seashore off North Carolina's coast, they agreed to create new public access points to the beach. Next week the public will get a chance to discuss those plans.
