Early in the afternoon on Saturday, August 13, 2022, Isle Royale National Park staff received reports of a plume of smoke coming from an apparent wildfire burning in the area of Three Mile campground, prompting trail and campground closures.

The National Park Service has awarded $7 million in the inaugural round of funding for the Semiquincentennial Grant Program commemorating the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States.
