Secretary Salazar Announces Plan to Open Statue of Liberty Crown to the Public

Continuing on his whirlwind work schedule, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar has cut through all the security red tape of the Bush administration and announced that the public once again will be able to climb all the way to the crown of the Statue of Liberty.

Obama Budget Proposes $2.7 Billion National Park Service Budget

President Barack Obama's proposed fiscal 2010 budget includes $2.7 billion for the National Park Service, a $171 million increase from FY09. Within that total is $68 million for use in buying private property inside national park boundaries.

National Research Council Blasts Park Service Report on Oyster Farming at Point Reyes National Seashore

National Park Service reports on the impacts of commercial oyster farming at Point Reyes National Seashore were skewed, "selectively" manipulated in several areas, and inconclusive overall, according to a National Research Council review.

A Tough Week for Hikers and Mule Riders at Grand Canyon National Park

It's been a tough week or so for hikers, mule riders and rescue teams at Grand Canyon National Park. During a 6-day span, a hiker fell off a trail and a rider was injured in an accident on a mule trip. Both required rescue via a park helicopter.

Two Special Bird Walks Offered in May at Fire Island National Seashore
