Winter has been pretty fluky across the United States, with heavy snows taking aim at the Mid-Atlantic and Sierra states, cold weather diving deeply into the Southeast, torrential rains hitting the Northeast, and quick warming baking the Midwest. With such a mix, what might we expect from the coming wildfire season across the National Park System?

Special Event at Fort Smith NHS Features Deputy U.S. Marshals, Light Horsemen and True Grit

A special event at Fort Smith National Historic Site on April 10 will offer the chance to interact with historical characters portraying U.S. Deputy Marshals and Chickasaw Light Horsemen. Tours of the jails, the gallows and Judge Parker's courtroom plus a photo op with a reproduction 1890 jail wagon will be followed by an outdoor screening of the movie True Grit.

Add Zion National Park to the List Of Parks With Road Construction Nightmares Planned

If you're visiting Zion National Park this year, well, enjoy the traffic. From mid-May into October there will be road work along the corridor into and out of the park's east entrance. And that means doing the "Utah two-step" from Zion to Bryce Canyon National Park or vice versa could be very trying.
