Interagency fire crews continued suppressing fire starts and investigating smoke reports across Olympic National Park and Olympic National Forest today. Crews are working to suppress two active fires on the Olympic National Forest caused by the lightning strikes. So far, no structures are threatened and there are no new evacuations or closures.

Buffalo National River staff in Arkansas is preparing to launch a public planning process for an updated river management plan and is seeking public input during a 30-day public comment period that runs through September 15.

In an effort aimed at reducing congestion, crowding, destruction of fragile areas, and ease strain on infrastructure and resources, Mount Rainier National Park initiated a timed-entry pilot program lasting through September 2, 2024. The park is now seeking public input on the success (or failure) of this program.
