Two Mountain Lion Kittens Found In The Santa Monica Mountains

National Park Service researchers have added two mountain lion kittens to a long-running study of the species in and around the Santa Monica Mountains. The siblings, a female and male named P-59 and P-60, were found by National Park Service and California Department of Fish and Wildlife biologists earlier this month in the central portion of the range.

A major milestone was achieved at Acadia National Park when Wayne and Charlene Ferguson and Annie, their Yorkshire terrier, boarded the Oceanarium bus route of the Island Explorer, a fare-free, propane-powered bus system that serves the park and its surrounding communities on Mount Desert Island and the Schoodic Peninsula.

The ferry pulled out of the Portland, Maine, harbor, turning towards the blue-sky horizon to begin the 6.5-hour journey to Nova Scotia. Though I lived in Maine for most of my life, I had never made the trek to our Canadian cousin to the east, a region home to an impressive history of fishing in the Atlantic Ocean as well as beautiful natural landscapes. My brother, sister, parents, and I would spend the rest of the next day exploring the Nova Scotia coastline, including a major item on my bucket list: Kejimkujik National Park Seaside.
