VIA Rail runs from one end of Canada to the other. There are great national park train trips all over the world—and one of the best is riding the rails to Canada’s Banff and Jasper National Parks. If you're making plans to head into Canada to explore Banff, Jasper, Kootenay, or Yoho national parks, you can plan to add maps from National Geographic's Trails Illustraetd series to your packing list.

Hopscotch the crags of the Rocky Mountains north from Glacier National Park across the border into Canada and you'll find yourself in a mountainous realm, one cupping lakes slowly being fed by melting glaciers and with forests rich in wildlife.
