Add Zion National Park to the List Of Parks With Road Construction Nightmares Planned

If you're visiting Zion National Park this year, well, enjoy the traffic. From mid-May into October there will be road work along the corridor into and out of the park's east entrance. And that means doing the "Utah two-step" from Zion to Bryce Canyon National Park or vice versa could be very trying.

Some might say southern Utah has gotten more than its share of snow this winter. That might be so, but it sure does make for a pretty picture, no? Marion Littlefield captured this setting, and it sure makes one want to head to Bryce Canyon National Park to see things for yourself.

Another of Marion's photos showed snow depths of nearly 4 feet at the Bryce Point viewpoint. And it's only January.

When the full moon glows bright over southern Utah's red-rock landscape, it can seem nearly as bright as day. Bryce Canyon National Park's rangers are well aware of this, and have put together a year-long schedule of full-moon hikes through the park's famous hoodoos for you to enjoy.

Trails I've Hiked: Bryce Canyon National Park's Under-the-Rim Trail

While the view down into the ruddy and tawny maw of Bryce Canyon National Park is pretty spectacular, you should try looking up at the park's colorful ramparts! And one of the best places to enjoy this view is along the park's lone long-distance backcountry trail, the 23-mile-long Under-the-Rim Trail that rises and falls down along the floor of the park, an area that few folks actually get to see because they prefer not to hoist a pack on their back.

Rooms Available For September and October Visits to National Parks in the West

If you're flexible enough to take a fall trip to some of the iconic national parks in the Western United States, there are a number of lodges that are reporting late-season availability. Lodges in Yellowstone, Bryce Canyon, Crater Lake, Grand Canyon, and Death Valley national parks all show some rooms available during the months of September and October.
