Interior Department's Proposal To Open Offshore Areas To Drilling Could Impact National Park System

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke's announcement Thursday that the Trump administration intends to open up coastal areas to oil and gas leasing drew immediate condemnation from the National Parks and Conservation Association, which fears that could adversely impact national seashores and parks.

National Park System units along the East Coast were closing down Wednesday in advance of a potent winter storm, known in some circles as a "bomb cyclone," expected to batter the coast through Thursday with gale-force winds, freezing rains, and possibly a foot or more of snow in some parks.

In The End...It Was A Dud

Things don't always turn out as they appear, and that was the case at Cape Hatteras National Seashore, where the rough surf spun out of Hurricane Maria landed a World War II mine on the beach. At least that's what it looked like. In the end, you might say it was a dud.
