There have been shark attacks and bear attacks in the national parks this summer. Which is more likely to keep you in your car?

As directed by Congress, Cape Hatteras National Seashore officials are looking at changes to how they manage off-road vehicles on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. And in the coming weeks the public will have a chance to bring its thoughts to the table as to how the management plan might be tweaked.

It sounds like a page from the script of Jaws, a blockbuster 40 years old this summer in which a massive great white shark terrorizes a fictional New England beach town during the Fourth of July weekend. No great white sharks are thought to be involved in the attacks at Cape Hatteras National Seashore, and there have been no deaths, but three separate incidents there in the past week have officials warning beach goers to stay out of the water if they fear sharks.

After reviewing the need for wildlife boundaries around nesting shorebirds and sea turtles, the staff at Cape Hatteras National Seashore has decided that the boundaries can be reduced in size a bit.
