Dogs Sniff Out Invasive Mussels At Chickasaw National Recreation Area

Boaters visiting Chickasaw National Recreation Area’s Lake of the Arbuckles in Oklahoma may meet a new line of defense in the fight against aquatic invasive species with a nose for detecting them – Raine, a golden retriever, and border collies Wisp and Darby. They can inspect an average-sized bass boat in under a minute, far faster than any person can. The dogs are trained to detect several invasive species, including zebra mussels.

Chickasaw National Recreation Area To Initiate Prescribed Fires

Chickasaw National Recreation Area in Oklahoma will begin prescribed burning this month, depending on weather conditions. These fires will occur on the southern border of the Lake of the Arbuckles from south of Masters Road, east towards Buckhorn Creek, and east of Route 177 across from the bison pasture.

UPDATED: Flood Waters Swirling Around Several National Park Units, One Death Reported

Unusually heavy and persistent spring rains have flooded several units of the National Park System in Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas, and Wyoming, leading to washed out trails, closed campgrounds, and at least one death.

Chickasaw National Recreation Area Fire Truck Part of Guinness World Record Attempt

It's hard to beat a small town parade with lots of fire trucks for an All-American event, but the town of Atoka, Oklahoma, pulled out all the stops recently with an event that should earn a spot in the Guinness World Records. A truck and two firefighters from Chickasaw National Recreation Area were part of the effort, which was all for a worthy cause.
