Application Period For Denali Road Lottery Kicks Off May 1

The application period for the 2017 road lottery program at Denali National Park and Preserve will open May 1. The road lottery takes place in September and allows up to 400 cars per day to be on the western portion of the park road, which is usually closed to most private vehicles.

This Year’s Winterfest Doubles As 100th Birthday Party For Denali National Park

Park Service Cancels Contract Offers To Mountaineering Guides At Denali National Park

After granting 10-year mountaineering guide contracts to six concessionaires at Denali National Park and Preserve in April, the National Park Service has decided to void those offers and start the process anew, citing concerns from multiple groups about franchise fees and clarity around provisions in the contract.

Rhythm Of The Wild: A Life Inspired By Alaska’s Denali National Park

Mudslide Maroons Some Denali National Park Visitors

A mudslide roughly 100 feet wide and 10 feet deep has forced closure of the Denali Park Road just west of the Eielson Visitor Center in Denali National Park and Preserve in Alaska and stranded some guests and workers at private lodges in Kantishna.

Denali National Park Bear Conditioned To Human Food Put Down By Rangers

A badly malnourished grizzly boar, one struggling with infirmities and which had connected park visitors with food, was put down by Denali National Park rangers and wildlife staff who concluded that the bear wasn't healthy enough to sustain aversion training to instill a fear of humans.

Two Missing Hikers, Two Different Outcomes

Search-and-rescue missions in the National Park System are stressful. The clock is always ticking, the landscapes to be searched varied and dangerous at times, and the outcome never assured. Two SARs this past weekend in the parks, one in Denali National Park and one in Sequoia National Park, ended with two very different outcomes.
