First "lit" in 1855, the Point Bonita Lighthouse long has worked to keep ships off the shoals as they entered San Francisco Bay. It wasn't always successful. The first edition of the lighthouse was located higher up on a hill, but proved to be too high, as the fog hid the light. The current location was chosen in 1877. It stands within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

Scofflaws Piloting Drones In The National Park System
How can someone spend anywhere from $500 to $3,000 for a drone, drive to the Marin Headlands portion of Golden Gate National Recreation Area, walk several hundred yards from the parking lot along with dozens of other visitors, commence to flying his drone on the trail to the Point Bonita Lighthouse, and claim not to know he was in a national park?

Official Numbers Point To 2014 As Record-Setting Year For National Park Attendance
2014 was a record-setting year for attendance in the National Park System, where nearly 293 million visitors spent time, a jump of more than 5 million from the record year of 1999, according to official figures. While most of the "name brand" parks were packed, there were still some sites in the system where you could find some solitude.

Sea Lion Yearling Rescued After Crossing Road In Golden Gate National Recreation Area
Why did the sea lion cross Skyline Drive in Golden Gate National Recreation Area? That's a good question with no ready answer. But the bottom line is that the male yearling, though undernourished, is doing well and being cared for at the Marine Mammal Center at the Marin Headlands of the NRA.
