Help power the National Parks Traveler’s coverage of national parks and protected areas.
First "lit" in 1855, the Point Bonita Lighthouse long has worked to keep ships off the shoals as they entered San Francisco Bay. It wasn't always successful. The first edition of the lighthouse was located higher up on a hill, but proved to be too high, as the fog hid the light. The current location was chosen in 1877. It stands within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
