Wyoming Lawmaker Introduces Bill To Let State Seize Yellowstone, Grand Teton

A Wyoming lawmaker, perhaps looking for his 15 minutes of fame, has introduced legislation to the state Legislature that would give Wyoming the authority to seize Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks, or other federal properties (aside from military facilities) in the Cowboy State, if they are closed to the public due to lack of funding.

Photography In The National Parks: My 10 Fave Photos From 2018

Out of all the national parks and other protected areas you visited the previous year, you've got certain favorites, right? How easy (or difficult) was it to choose those favorites? Sometimes, it might come down more to the feeling you had when capturing that image rather than just the composition. Continuing her New Year's tradition with the Traveler, contributing photographer Rebecca Latson shares her favorite photos captured during the previous year. Usually stopping at 5 or 7 shots, this year, Rebecca is sharing 10 favorite images to mark her 2018 visit to 9 national parks and 1 national recreation area, explaining why she chose each image and how she captured it.

Wild Migrations: Atlas Of Wyoming’s Ungulates

This book is an atlas unlike any that I have seen. Its focus is not on a national park but on the state of Wyoming in which two national parks, Grand Teton and Yellowstone, are very much at the core of migrations of elk, bison, and mule deer. Many migrations in the state do not touch on these national parks, but the point of the book is that migratory ungulate populations, once nearly eradicated by overhunting and other factors, are mostly on the rebound.

2018 Year In Review: Exploring The Parks

This year took National Parks Traveler contributors to parks – near and far, big and small – that showcase the diversity and history of our planet. The Traveler took readers to Chile, Portugal, and Tanzania. A little closer to home, follow a daring journey into Wrangell-St. Elias National Park in Alaska, which, at 13.2 million acres, is the largest national park in the United States, or tag along with Jim Stratton on his trip to smaller, lesser-known units of the National Park System.

Around The Parks: Higher Fees, Winter In Yosemite, Good Work In Grand Teton

Higher fees are coming your way for touring the Delta-O1 launch facility at Minuteman Missile National Historic Site, the Mariposa Grove at Yosemite National Park is open for winter, and friends of Cuyahoga Valley National Park have raised millions for a new visitor center. Those are just some of the stories from around the National Park System.
