After the removal of hazardous, non-native eucalyptus trees, the Nāmakanipaio Campground in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park has reopened with fresh views of Mauna Loa.

Fortunately, the park system is large and diverse. Finding that perfect home-away-from-home for a winter adventure may come down to deciding if you like it cold and snowy, or hot and sandy.

The hawksbill turtle, an endangered species, will receive some help from a National Park Foundation grant that will support efforts at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park to protect the reptile and improve its habitat at the park.
