According to the NPS website, 95% of brown bears in the United States live in Alaska. and Lake Clark National Park & Preserve provides a protected habitat for its population of bears to thrive. Salmon spawining season brings out the bears in numbers, all working at fattening up for the winter to come.
July and August, when the salmon are running in Silver Salmon Creek, provide prime bear viewing opportunities at Lake Clark National Park & Preserve, Alaska. In between salmon snacks, this sow kept a weather eye out on her cubs, the salmon swimming in the creek below her, and the photographers standing a safe distance away while using their telephoto lenses.
