Fungus Blamed For Loss Of 75-80 Percent Of Tri-Colored Bats At Mammoth Cave

It's been nearly 14 years since "white-nose syndrome," named for a white powder-looking fungus found on the nose of bats, was first identified on a bat in New York. Since then the disease has moved westward, leaving millions of dead bats in its wake. At Mammoth Cave National Park in Kentucky, the disease is blamed for the loss of 75-80 percent of Tri-colored bats there.

What exactly is karst topography? Basically, it's a porous geologic formation that sometimes is referred to as the "Swiss cheese" of topography because it is easily dissolved and the formation features sinkholes, caves, and underground rivers. Mammoth Cave National Park Hosts Open House For Concessions Facilities Improvements

Mammoth Cave National Park will hold an open house style public meeting at The Lodge at Mammoth Cave's Rotunda Room on Tuesday, May 14th from 4-6 p.m. to provide information on several upcoming projects to improve the park’s concessions facilities. Park staff will be on hand during the open house to explain the details of the various projects and collect public comments.
