Whitebark Pine Listed As A Threatened Species Under ESA

Whitebark pines, majestic trees that grow across Western national parks and feed birds and bears and serve as living snow fences, are at risk of disappearing due to disease, beetle attacks, and climate change and deserve protection as a threatened species under the Endangered Species Act, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced Wednesday.

"Blue Hour" doesn't really last an hour, but it's that time just before sunrise or just after sunset, when shades of purple, blue, and mauve bathe the sky and landscape. The Tipsoo Lake overlook at Mount Rainier National Park is one of the popular stops to view "The Mountain." Although this spot has been photographed numerous times, the changes of light, shadow, weather, and seasons always create a new view.
