Scofflaw Truck Drivers Prompt More Signage Along Natchez Trace Parkway

“There’s a tractor-trailer on the Parkway,” reported the caller to the dispatcher. “It’s heading north from Highway 82.” This was the eighth call of the day on illegal trucks traveling the Natchez Trace Parkway, but this time, rangers could not respond because they were busy with a motor vehicle collision.

Natchez Trace: It's A Parkway, Not An Interstate

Do you know that the Natchez Trace Parkway is one of the 417 units managed by the National Park Service? Do you know that the National Park Service includes iconic parks, such as Yellowstone, Yosemite, and the Grand Canyon, and smaller units such as the .2-acre Thaddeus Kosciusko National Memorial in Philadelphia PA (where they pronounce it Kosh-chush-ko)? Do you know that even the White House is part of the National Park Service? Do you know that the Parkway was created as a scenic by-way to commemorate the Old Natchez Trace?

Signs Along Natchez Trace Parkway To Alert Motorists To Cyclists, And Vice Versa

Lush deep shade and a gently curving scenic road are two landscape features that make the Natchez Trace Parkway a pleasant recreational route for both motorists and bicyclists. Those features that make traveling the Parkway enjoyable can sometimes reduce visibility for both drivers and bicyclists. New signs, funded through the Natchez Trace Parkway Association Gary Holdiness Cycling Fund, will raise motorist awareness and remind drivers that bicycles, as well as other motor vehicles, use the Parkway.

National Park Service Uses Arlington Memorial Bridge To Highlight Maintenance Backlog Woes

Having already announced earlier this year that the maintenance backlog across the National Park System is closing in on $12 billion, the National Park Service is now highlighting the structural problems with the Arlington Memorial Bridge in Washington, D.C., in a bid to raise congressional awareness of the problems.

National Park Service Vs. Beavers Along The Natchez Trace Parkway

Beavers are part of the wild kingdom along the Natchez Trace Parkway, but the engineering rodents have been creating problems for surrounding landowners with their dam building. While National Park Service crews at times have to breach the dams, a team from NASA has been working with the agency to develop solutions for dealing with the beavers.
