Work Progressing To Recover Fisher Populations In Pacific Northwest

Since 2008, a program to return fishers, a small forest carnivore, to Olympic, Mount Rainier, and North Cascades national parks has been an ongoing effort with help from Washington's National Park Fund. Though not an overnight success, some of the relocated animals are sticking around.

Groups Agree To Extend Fishing Closure On Elwha River Through Olympic National Park

The Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe, Olympic National Park, and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife have agreed that it is necessary to extend the fishing closure in the Elwha River for another two years, from June 1, 2019, to July 1, 2021.

The "Tree Root Cave", Olympic National Park

The "Tree Root Cave," aka "Tree of Life", is located on Kalaloch Beach, down the steps from the Kalaloch Campground Day Use Area in Olympic National Park, Washington. This oddity of nature resulted from a stream undercutting the bluff on which the tree still clings by a few strong roots.

Washington’s National Park Fund Hosts Annual Spring Fundraiser On April 13

Washington’s National Park Fund will host its annual Spring Dinner and Auction on Saturday, April 13, at Seattle Center’s Fisher Pavilion. Focused on “National Parks, Personal Experiences,” this lively event aims to raise more than $300,000 to support priority park projects in Mount Rainier, North Cascades and Olympic national parks.

Who really does manage most national park lodgings? For the big operations in places such as Yellowstone, Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Glacier, and Shenandoah, corporations. Not surprisingly, while many of the 500 management contracts administered by the National Park Service, such as providing firewood or operating a bicycle rental operation, are relatively straightforward, those for large commercial facilities such as lodging in Yosemite or Yellowstone are extremely complicated. Olympic National Park Backcountry Reservations Moving To Recreation.Gov

The Olympic National Park Wilderness Information Center will transition to an online reservation system through Recreation.gov beginning at noon on March 18. The new online reservation system will allow backpackers to check the availability of sites in real time, plan their trip and receive immediate confirmation, and streamline the park's wilderness permit reservations, according to the park staff.
