Olympic National Park, Olympic National Forest Implementing Fire Restrictions

Due to the combination of increased dry conditions and rising temperatures, the Olympic National Forest and Olympic National Park in Washington state are implementing fire restrictions that will only allow campfires in established fire rings in designated areas. Restrictions take effect at midnight July 9.

Photography In The National Parks: Same Spot, Different Time / Season / Weather

While it’s great to travel to and explore new units of the National Park System with your camera, it’s also great to revisit your favorite parks and return to photograph favorite spots at view areas and along the trail. Why? Because quite often, this same favorite spot may look quite a bit different depending upon the season, time of day, or weather conditions.

Trails I’ve Hiked: The Cinder Cone Trail

If you’ve ever visited Lassen Volcanic National Park, you’ll probably have hiked the Bumpass Hell Trail. It’s one of those must-do hikes. But that’s not the only trail you should tackle. Contributing photographer and editor Rebecca Latson hiked Cinder Cone Trail in the more remote northeastern portion of the park and firmly believes the rewards are worth the effort.
