What would you think if you bought a house and after paying for the property, the current owners refused to vacate the property? Worse, yet, the previous owners continued to run their business utilizing your property for their private profit, while degrading the property’s value? Would you not be outraged?

Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke's announcement Thursday that the Trump administration intends to open up coastal areas to oil and gas leasing drew immediate condemnation from the National Parks and Conservation Association, which fears that could adversely impact national seashores and parks.

A 30-day comment period has opened to provide the National Park Service with thoughts, ideas, and opinions on the question of dairy and beef ranching on Point Reyes National Seashore and a portion of Golden Gate National Recreation Area, as well as the future of Tule elk on the seashore.

The National Park Service must consider a future that doesn’t include beef and dairy cattle ranching at Point Reyes National Seashore and will conduct a public environmental review of how the those operations, some of which date to the 1800s, impact the park’s California coastline under a settlement agreement filed Wednesday with the U.S. Department of Justice.
