A nearly 30-foot tall white fir from Pennsylvania now stands as the National Christmas Tree on the Ellipse in President's Park in Washington, D.C.

The White House Visitor Center is displaying a newly carved Double Scottish Rose that celebrates the legacy of the original stonemasons of the White House. The Double Scottish Rose design became popular in the 18th century and was a great source of pride for the people of Scotland, including the Scottish stonemasons who worked on the White House in the 1790s. The design appears throughout the White House exterior walls, columns, porticos and above the North Door.

President Barack Obama, and First Lady Michelle Obama will help wrap the National Park Service centennial celebrations when they officially light the National Christmas Tree in President's Park on Thursday during the 2016 National Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony. Olympic Gold Medalist swimmer Simone Manuel is also set to make a special appearance with First Lady Michelle Obama.

Whichever nominee is next to call 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue home, they should have plenty of fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs readily at hand thanks to Michelle Obama, the National Park Service, and now the Burpee Foundation and the W. Atlee Burpee Company.
