The White House Visitor Center is displaying a newly carved Double Scottish Rose that celebrates the legacy of the original stonemasons of the White House. The Double Scottish Rose design became popular in the 18th century and was a great source of pride for the people of Scotland, including the Scottish stonemasons who worked on the White House in the 1790s. The design appears throughout the White House exterior walls, columns, porticos and above the North Door.
The National Park Service is bringing the beautification of the lawn and gardens of Lafayette Park into the digital age. The seven-acre park just north of the White House will soon be served by a high-tech, water-saving irrigation system that includes intelligent sensors that adjust to evaporation rates and weather conditions like rain or freezing temperatures.

The United States Secret Service and the National Park Service have presented concepts for a new White House fence to the Commission of Fine Arts for concept approval. The CFA voted to approve the essential components of the agencies’ preferred concept, which will be further developed and refined in the coming months.
