Saratoga National Historical Park should be renamed Saratoga National Battlefield Park to "more accurately reflect the historical significance of the site and emphasize the crucial military engagements that took place there," said U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik.

Heavy rains sent flash floods across parts of Saratoga National Historical Park in upstate New York, damaging roads and trails and forcing closure of some areas of the park.

There are, across the National Park System, dozens and dozens of jewels that don't attract crowds while offering you gorgeous landscapes, deep history, and rich experiences. Here's a look at some of those places that the National Parks Traveler wrote about this year.

The Schuyler House at Saratoga National Historical Park in upstate New York is scheduled to open for the summer season on June 10. The house will be open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday through October 22. Tours will begin at 10 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11 a.m., and 11:30 a.m. An open house period will follow from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Entrance is free, and the first floor is accessible for all visitors.
