Study Says Yellowstone National Park Backpackers Mostly Happy With Their Experience

A study into the experiences of backpackers in Yellowstone National Park came away with the conclusion that almost all had a great experience. Most said they didn't think the park's backcountry was crowded, and they had no problem with the fees they had to pay.

Lessons From A Previous Environmental Catastrophe

In June of 1894—125 years ago—Sequoia National Park superintendent James Parker journeyed northwards to inspect the Sierra Forest Reserve. This mountainous country (now called the Sierra National Forest) had been set aside sixteen months previously to protect its watersheds from overgrazing by sheep and over-cutting by timber interests. Parker entered a disaster zone.

Heavy Sierra Snow And Structure Damage Prompt Closure Of Bearpaw High Sierra Camp In Sequoia National Park

Sequoia National Park visitors hoping to use the Bearpaw High Sierra Camp will have to wait until 2020. Above-average snowpack has damaged the tent cabin structures and delayed access for pack animals critical for repairs and supplies, and the camp will remain closed for the remainder of the 2019 season.
