Colorful Badlands Landscape, Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Colorful badlands landscape in Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Rugged, colorful landscape and bison roaming that landscape will greet the viewer upon a visit to Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota. According to the NPS, "When Theodore Roosevelt came to Dakota Territory to hunt bison in 1883, he was a skinny, young, spectacled dude from New York. He could not have imagined how his adventure in this remote and unfamiliar place would forever alter the course of the nation. The rugged landscape and strenuous life that TR experienced here would help shape a conservation policy that we still benefit from today."

Op-Ed | Feral Horses Should Be Removed From Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Theodore Roosevelt National Park has proposed eliminating feral horses and domestic livestock from the park. Unlike the fiasco at Point Reyes National Seashore, where the National Park Service appears to support maintaining domestic livestock within the park unit, the staff at Theodore Roosevelt recommends reducing the number of domestic animals to zero. Management of feral horses and domestic cattle across the West has been contentious for decades.

Should Horses And Cattle Be Removed From Theodore Roosevelt National Park

The National Park Service is charged with preserving natural resources, a challenging mission at best, but one that can get emotionally charged when the topic of removing nonnative horses and cattle comes up. At Theodore Roosevelt National Park in North Dakota, officials are gathering public comment on what to do with the roughly 200 feral horses and nine cattle that roam that park.
