Designation of Castle Mountains National Monument in California is expected to serve as a critical connection between two mountain ranges, protecting water resources, plants, and wildlife such as golden eagles, bighorn sheep, mountain lions, and bobcats. It became the 410th unit of the National Park System when President Obama signed the declaration on February 12, 2016.
