NPS, Brett Seymour
Tuesday, February 2, 2016

The Dry Tortugas chain of islands south of Key West, Florida, long has been valued for its strategic location at the confluence of the Gulf of Mexico, the Atlantic Ocean, and the western Caribbean Sea. Fort Jefferson was built there in the early 1800s to defend this area. Today the fort is the icon of Dry Tortugas National Park.
