An important anniversary happens this year that actually predates the National Park Service. It has been 100 years that we have had Antiquities Act in this country. This single act is responsible for a lot of the places we treasure today around the Parks. The amazing thing is that this piece of 100 year old legislation is still working today. As recently as two months ago George Bush used its power to create the new African Burial Ground National Monument in New York City. So, I have been excited to learn that there is a brand new book (pub date April 30, 2006) on the subject.
