Words, it long has been said, take a backseat to photographs, but a collection of messages tied to the landscape of Yosemite National Park rise above the pictures.
In Yosemite Meditations for Adventurers we're presented with a pocket book showcasing Michael Frye's photos from throughout the park and accompanying thoughts from such renowned individuals as Susan Sontag, Helen Keller, Walt Whitman, John Muir, and others.
While many of the photos are riveting, the messages accompanying them are even more so inspiring and thought-provoking. Here are a handful of those to encourage you to head outside and experience not just Yosemite, but the outdoors in general:
"All the wide world is beautiful, and it matters but little where we go...The spot where we chance to be always seems the best." -- John Muir
"The best climber in the world is the one who's having the most fun." - Alex Lowe
"Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing. To keep our faces toward change and behave like free spirits in the presence of fate is strength undefeatable." -- Helen Keller
"Should you be hesitant to get your boots on rather vertical trails, it's time to adjust your thinking." -- Sharon Giacomazzi
"Only those who will risk going too far can possibly find out just how far one can go!" -- T.S. Eliot
"To the lovers of learning, life is pure adventure shared with adventurers." -- Pearl S. Buck
"And the purpose of life, after all, is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reachout eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience." -- Eleanor Roosevelt
This is a wonderful little book to inspire you to not just seek adventure, but to push your limits just a little.
