Photography In The National Parks: Where Will That Trail Take You? Creating A Theme

When you visit national parks, do you find yourself focusing on a particular aspect of those parks? Maybe you are concentrating your photography on cactus blooms, or wildflowers, or the results of glacial geology, or a particular specimen of wildlife. What you are doing, in fact, is creating a theme to your national park photographic story. Photographer Rebecca Latson discusses themes and how they can improve your powers of observation as well as your photographic skills.

Glacier Officials Want Cyclists To Watch For Bears And Avalanches

Warm breezes and "chamber of commerce" blue skies make spring an ideal time to get out into the national parks, but in those parks with snow in the mountains visitors have to be aware of both hungry bears coming out of hibernation and the potential for avalanches. Pedaling up that iconic Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park in springtime, before snow is fully removed and vehicles are allowed on it, can be a spectacular experience. Paying attention to your surroundings can ensure it's a safe roundtrip, notes Glacier Superintendent Jeff Mow.
