Bells To Ring On April 9 To Commemorate 150th Anniversary of Appomattox Surrender

Special events on April 9, 2015, at Appomattox Court House National Historical Park and Independence National Historical Park will be part of a nationwide observance of the 150th Anniversary of General Robert E. Lee’s surrender at Appomattox, Virginia. That surrender marked the symbolic but not the final end of the Civil War.

Smoke From Fire Impacts Major Art Collection At Independence National Historical Park

Anyone who has worked in an emergency response job knows that false alarms from fire and security systems are a fact of life, but on Tuesday morning last week, a smoke alarm from a building at Independence National Historical Park proved to be the real deal. Prompt response by firefighters prevented major damage to the historic Second Bank building, but an important collection of artwork received serious smoke impacts.
