Can you squeeze in a June visit to Glacier National Park? If so, lodging discounts await. Kurt Repanshek photo.

In light of the weak economy, should it be any surprise that lodging deals are starting to materialize in the national parks? At Glacier National Park, for instance, you can find lodging discounts up to 40 percent per night for visits this coming June.

The deals, offered by Glacier Park, Inc., start with a savings of 20 percent for a two-night stay. A three-night stay will be discounted 30 percent, with a four-night stay discounted 40 percent, according to the concessionaire.

The deals, offered for the concessionaire's seven lodgings in Glacier and adjacent Waterton Lakes National Park, are good only for June visits and only when you book a stay through the company's central reservations office at 406-892-2525. It is not valid if you book a stay on-line. The promotion code is E-CLUB.

The fine print: The deal can be halted at any time, and currently is good only for calls made between February 4 and March 4. Plus, you can't take advantage of the discount if you spread your stay out through more than one lodge. Check out early and you lose the discounted rates.

These are some nice discounts if you want to stay in the park. Early June lets you miss some of the crowds, but as late in June as possible gives you more options in the high country.

Depending upon how much snow falls during the rest of the winter, the park's justly famous Going-to-the-Sun Road may not be open all the way across the Continental Divide earlier in June--which is one more reason for the lodging discounts. Check the park website for updates on road construction as well.
