Is this the winter you stand before the General Sherman Tree in Sequoia National Park? NPS photo by Alex Picavet

Still unchecked on my national park "to-do" list is a winter visit to Sequoia National Park with snowshoes and XC skis in tow. The folks at Wuksachi Lodge are trying to entice me with winter specials.

Of course, how "special" these rates are is a pretty subjective thing. We're talking nearly $200 a night in some cases. But the setting is hard to beat, as the Giant Forest with its big trees is right around the corner. And calling the park home during the holidays -- if they're snowy -- wouldn't be the worst of escapes.

Here are the current offers:

EXCLUSIVE HOLIDAY BED & BREAKFAST RATES
from $182* per night
Experience the magic of the holidays at Sequoia National Park as you enjoy a great night's sleep in the Wuksachi Lodge and breakfast for two the next morning. This offer is available during stays from December 19, 2009 through January 3, 2010. Please reference promo code BBSEQ to receive this exclusive rate.

EXCLUSIVE HOLIDAY SKI TOURING PACKAGE
from $186* per night
Spend your holiday with an adventure on the Sequoia snow. With the Ski Touring Package, you'll enjoy one night's accommodations and cross-country ski rental for two people. This offer is available during stays from December 19, 2009 through January 3, 2010. To book this exclusive holiday season rate, please reference promo code SEQHE.

SPECIAL PRE-HOLIDAY MIDWEEK RATES
from $91* per night

They also have a winter family fun special, but they don't seem to know when it is. Go figure.
