Eight New Cabins For Log Cabin Resort At Lake Crescent In Olympic National Park

New lodging doesn't come along often in the National Park System, so when it does it's definitely newsworthy. The lodging is in the form of eight cabins being constructed at the Log Cabin Resort on Lake Crescent in Olympic National Park in Washington state. Along with the cabins, which are coming in kit form, the contractor will build a manager's resident at the resort.

The contract awarded Advanced Technology Construction from Tacoma, Washington, is for $2.2 million. The park release announcing the work did not break down the cost of the cabins or that of demolishing and hauling away eight existing cabins through to date to the 1930s. The project also includes road, parking, and utility improvements associated with the new cabins.

Many of the cabins destined to be torn down came from other resorts that previously operated around the lake, according to the Park Service.

Two of the new cabins will meet ADA/ABA Guidelines for persons with disabilities. An ADA/ABA compliant trail will connect the cabins with all the primary activities at the resort. Four of the cabins will have kitchenettes. T

The new guest cabins and manager’s residence project is funded by concession franchise fees. Concession franchise fees are a percentage of the concessioner’s annual revenue that is returned to the park and support concession operations. The park utilized concession franchise fees to complete other projects at Log Cabin Resort over the last few years, including upgrading the RV campground, improving accessibility for Log Cabin Lodge, constructing a restroom building adjacent to the dock for day users, expanding the day use parking lot, and demolishing the manager’s residence.

New boat docks were constructed through grant funding and concession franchise fees. The park also installed a new water tank with seismic upgrades. Future plans include a new wastewater treatment plant.

Log Cabin Resort closed for the season on September 30. Project work is now underway, including the demolition of the deteriorated guest cabins. The work at Log Cabin Resort will last six months, with the new guest cabins scheduled to be complete and operational when the resort opens for the 2018 season in late May.

Aramark Corporation was awarded a ten-year concession contract to operate Log Cabin Resort in October 2013. In the contract the park committed to replacing the eight guest cabins and manager’s residence.
