In a move to make it easier to snag a site at the Jumbo Rocks Campground in Joshua Tree National Park, and to give those with sites some peace and quiet, the park has made the campground "reservation only" from October through May.
Reservations can be made in advance or on the same day, but must be made prior to entering the park due to lack of cell service and wifi in the park. Reservations can be made at recreation.gov.
"A constant parade of vehicles driving through a campground looking for an available campsite is really disruptive for campers in search of an outdoor experience," said Joshua Tree Superintendent David Smith. "We hope to enhance the visitor experience at Jumbo Rocks with this new policy and provide better management of the campground."
