Missouri motorists can now buy newly redesigned license plates commemorating the arch at Gateway Arch National Park.
With every order of a plate from the non-profit Jefferson National Parks Association (JNPA), a tax-deductible contribution will support enriching educational programs for all ages at the park. The association also operates the Arch Store in the visitor center beneath the arch.
“We are excited to unveil the new design for the specialty Arch license plate,” David Grove, president and CEO of JNPA, said in a news release. “It not only features our iconic monument, but its graceful lines are a nod to the Arch’s new circular west entrance. Plus, the license plate bears the new park name, Gateway Arch National Park. As the State of Missouri continues transitioning to its bicentennial license plate, we thought this was the perfect time to refresh our specialty license plate to a more modern design.”
The new license plate was designed by St. Louis graphic designer Carlos Zamora.
To order, follow the instructions at archplates.jnpa.com, which include submitting a tax-deductible donation ($25 for one year or $50 for two years) to JNPA as well as completing the state’s application for personalized plates and providing its $15 processing fee. You can customize your plate message with up to six characters, or five characters with one space, dash or apostrophe.
Plates can be ordered at any time, regardless of the renewal date of your current plate.
The program has been around since 2004. The park used to known as Jefferson Expansion National Memorial.

Once again, a state reinforces the "have and have-not" nature of parks. This license plate benefits only Gateway Arch, the richest park in Missouri and a park that already has substantial fee income. I'm sure George Washington Carver, Ulysses S Grant, Wilson's Creek, and other NPS areas in Missouri would love the income from a state program. It's the same in California and Hawaii. Rich parks get richer and poor parks scramble for what they can get.
I like this plate although I wish it had some red, white and blue. I like to have a frame on my plates. This plate would not work where the tag has to be applied. This is something to think about in future designs.
