Interior Secretary Deb Haaland broke her left leg Sunday while out hiking in Shenandoah National Park.

In a brief statement the Interior Department announced that the break to her left fibula was confirmed Monday morning.

"She is grateful to park staff, the U.S. Park Police, and the team at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for their excellent care," read the statement. "The Secretary will resume her schedule virtually this afternoon."

Interior staff declined to provide further details of the incident.

As a former NPS ranger, I hope Secretary Haaland has a thorough and fast recuperation!

Wishing her all the best.
