Emergency repairs to Big Bend National Park's west entrance road are scheduled to begin February 26 and run through March 1, creating access issues through that gate.

According to the park, visitors accessing Big Bend from Highway 118 to the entrance near Study Butte/Terlingua will encounter single lane traffic and delays of up to one hour while crews repair a heavily eroded section of road base.

Work along the entrance road will begin each day at 10 a.m. and continue until approximately 6 p.m. Park visitors are urged to arrive early. The other entrance to the national park at Persimmon Gap, located 39 miles south of Marathon, Texas, along Highway 385 will remain fully open as usual.

“Safety of our park visitors is our number one priority, and we are working diligently to address some concerns along the entrance road,” said acting Superintendent Chad Tinney. “Please follow all safety signage and be alert in the road construction zone. I appreciate your patience as we endeavor to repair the road before the busy spring break period begins.”
