Starting in 1922 as a type-written news sheet, Yosemite Nature Notes the periodical went on to become a charming magazine with more than 400 issues during its 40 years of publication.

  • Georgia: A full and fair description of the programs and financial statement summary of National Parks Traveler is available upon request at the office and phone number indicated above.
  • Maryland: Documents and information submitted under the Maryland Solicitations Act are also available, for the cost of postage and copies, from the Secretary of State, State House, Annapolis, MD 21401 (410-974-5534).
  • North Carolina: Financial information about this organization and a copy of its license are available from the State Solicitation Licensing Branch at 888-830-4989 or 919-807-2214. The license is not an endorsement by the State.

Truly outstanding! I wonder if the written form of "Yosemite Nature Notes" can be revived? Certainly, there must be new stories to be told by new generations of park staff and visitors alike. Meanwhile, Steve Bumgardner continues to perform a wonderful service to all of us who reside beyond Yosemite's borders. His short video "Yosemite Nature Notes" are priceless works of art that help build a public constituency for the park among those who may have never visited. By the way, in this video, artist Penny Otwell mentions that Dr. Carl W. Sharsmith, a frequent author of pre-1961 issues of Yosemite Nature Notes, worked in Yosemite for "more than 50 years." I believe it was more like 63 seasons, most of which were spent at Tuolumne Meadows.
