Trail Work To Close Great Falls Overlook Along Chesapeake & Ohio Canal

The Chesapeake & Ohio Canal National Historical Park is temporarily closing the Olmsted Island Trail and Great Falls Overlook for repairs that will improve visitor safety and better protect park resources. Construction on the bridges is anticipated to last 90-120 days with completion and re-opening in late June 2017. Completion of construction may be impacted by weather conditions.

President's Budget Proposal Would Be "Devastating" To National Parks

Opposition to President Trump's call for a 10 percent budget cut across most of the federal government was surfacing in some camps Tuesday, and heightened pushback would be welcomed by national park supporters, some of who say a cut of that magnitude would "be devastating" to the agency.

An Ice Age Survivor

Dating back to about 187,000 to 129,000 years ago, muskoxen are known as the shaggy survivors of the Ice Age. Today muskoxen are found in northern Canada, Greenland, and Alaska. Third Annual Anacostia River Festival Coming In April

The National Park Service and the 11th Street Bridge Park will present the third annual Anacostia River Festival, a premier event of the National Cherry Blossom Festival. This year’s program will have a special focus on biking in the district and will celebrate the new extension of the Anacostia Riverwalk Trail to Bladensburg, Maryland.
