On September 16, 2024, the Swiftcurrent area of the Many Glacier Valley in Glacier National Park will be closed for road, parking, and pedestrian safety improvements and a water system replacement. The closure will be in place during the fall of 2024, lasting through mid-May 2026. During this time, the construction zone will be closed to vehicles, bikes and foot traffic.

NPS Completes Environmental Review For Continued Management Of E-Bikes

The National Park Service (NPS) on August 23 released a programmatic environmental assessment and Finding of No Significant Impact (FONSI) reaffirming park superintendents’ authority to allow visitors to use electric bicycles (e-bikes) in national parks on a case-by-case basis.

National Park Service To Fell Hazard Trees Along Natchez Trace Parkway

In 2023, a severe drought in Mississippi triggered a pine beetle outbreak which caused a large number of pine trees to die. The National Park Service will work to fell the beetle killed trees beginning August 26, 2024.

West Nile Virus Detected At Watch Hill In Fire Island National Seashore

The first case of West Nile Virus for 2024 at Fire Island National Seashore has been detected in a mosquito sample from Watch Hill, Fire Island. Watch Hill is a federal tract of land between Davis Park and the Fire Island Wilderness area.

Wildfire Closes Sage Creek Campground Of Badlands National Park

Lightning from a thunderstorm overnight ignited a wildfire in the Sage Creek area of Badlands National Park. The Sage Creek area is accessed via a dirt and gravel road approximately one-half mile (0.8 km) south of the Pinnacles Entrance. The landscape all around there is mixed-grass prairie prone to ignition due to the dry summer.

Additional Water Restrictions For North And South Rims Of Grand Canyon

It wasn’t too long ago Grand Canyon National Park implemented water conservation measures due to a pump failure at Havasupai Gardens. Now, there’s a new break in the Transcanyon Waterline creating new water restrictions and conservation measures on both South and North Rims.
