Hurricane Idalia's charge across Florida on Wednesday prompted more than a dozen units of the National Park System to close in the face of forecasts calling for heavy rains, high winds, storm surges, and possibly tornadoes.

A nearly $113 million contract has been awarded for work to rehabilitate the failing seawalls around a portion of the Tidal Basin and along the Potomac River through West Potomac Park in Washington, D.C.

National Park System units along the Carolinas were making plans Tuesday to close before the remnants of Hurricane Idalia reached them.

The National Park Service and Grand Teton National Park Foundation are working in partnership to preserve and rehabilitate buildings at the historic Roy Chambers Homestead, which is part of the Mormon Row Historic District in Grand Teton National Park. The Mormon Row Road will be closed from north of Ditch Creek to south of the Roy Chambers site through October for renovation activities.
