You wouldn't think with walls rising roughly a mile above you on either side that you'd get struck by lightning. But that happened the other day to a Colorado River guide in the bottom of Grand Canyon National Park.

A few hours spent enjoying the Cub Lake Trail in Rocky Mountain National Park shows off both the calamity of careless campers, and the rebirth of a landscape.

It is July in Yellowstone. At the height of tourist season it is hot and dry and traffic is moving slow throughout the park, as visitors take their time meandering the roads, hoping to see a bear or a wolf along the way and hitting the brakes if they do spot some wildlife.

One of our newest, and perhaps one of our most unusual, national historic sites is located alongside Interstate 90 in South Dakota just outside the northeast entrance of Badlands National Park.
